Cyber Safety Agreement

By Simon Clarke | Posted: Tuesday August 8, 2017

Thank you to the 9 parents who have filled out the cyber safety form link at the bottom of this article. We would greatly appreciate the rest of the school filling out this form.

Keeping our students safe is one of our primary responsibilities at Kaikorai School and this includes while the students are using the internet.  We have a comprehensive filter system run by the Ministry of Education but as you will be well aware not all systems are perfect.

The most important thing we can do is to teach children about net etiquette and what to do if things go wrong.    Children are encouraged at school to turn off the screen and tell a teacher if something is on their device that they don't feel comfortable about.

Parents play a vital part in role modelling good cyber safety skills.

Some simple advice is:

  • Take an interest in what apps and sites they are visiting.  I have included a list of common social media websites and the legal age they can use them.
  • Set expectations on what they can use and why.   We have included below a list of ages of when children can use different social media sites.  Please be aware that Musically is open but we are aware of some issues involved with this website when children are left unsupported.
  • Use technology in a common space so that you know what they are doing.
  • Check the history on your child's devices from time to time.

We have updated our cyber safety agreement and hope that all parents take the time to go over this with their child.  Please fill out the online form below and for those who don't we will be sending home a paper form next week.
