Middle's News

Kaikorai Primary never ceases to be a busy place! We have had children visiting Yvette Williams rest home with the choir and participating in Polyfest at the Edgar centre.

The advances in technology continue to amaze us! Last Wednesday those of us who stayed at school were able to watch our junior kapa haka group perform live on stage via a live stream. We really enjoyed this and we're very proud of our classmates!

Room 3 visited the makerspace with Pip Dick from Hatch. All of the children made an interactive poster using a device called a ‘makey makey’. The posters have buttons which when pressed play a recording. This was quite a complicated task, and the children proved themselves to be excellent listeners and good at following instructions! 3D design is something that one would assume is quite challenging, however our children were all able to design a nametag and enjoyed exploring what other items they could make on the 3D printer.

R5 had a great experience at the Dunedin Art Gallery recently.  We created 'animals on the move' where we learnt about using 'fat' or 'skinny' brush strokes to create movement. We loved how they turned out! We also wrote a character description about our animals. They are on display in the classroom if you'd like to come in and have a look! Some are also on the Dunedin Art Gallery website.

Room 6 had a fun time creating trees and landscapes at the art gallery. There were many opportunities to discuss the way different artists create a piece of art.  We have also created some colourful artworks of the sons of Rangi and Papa using pastel and dye.   Some children have also been creating some storyboards to retell the story, and will then begin looking at how to make a short movie from it.
