Book Week 27-31 March 2017

By Linda Martin | Posted: Thursday March 23, 2017

This week the whole school has a focus on books! Books that are great for kids, capture their imaginations and give them lots of pleasure when reading.

This week we challenge the children in the senior classes to read in different places, times, with different people, or in different situations e.g.

in a tent, in the garden, somewhere up high or down low, in the bath, in the lounge, in bed, by torchlight, to a sibling, with Mum or Dad or another adult, to someone who needs cheering up, to a friend...

We also challenge them to try some different types of texts e.g.

read about an artist, a hunter, a famous inventor or an adventurer. Try a book or article about an important event in history, read a play, try a science experiment, or read and use a recipe to bake a cake.

Possible sources: newspapers, comics, magazines, kindles, audio books, on line texts, songs etc.

Our main aims are to encourage children to enjoy reading, increase their reading skills and to broaden their choices in reading.

We would also like them to treat it as a competition with themselves to increase the amount of time they read. They will have a sponsorship card to record what they read, and for how long. Sponsors may like to sponsor a flat rate or an amount of money per minute. That is up to you.

Sponsorship cards and money should be returned to the class teacher on Monday 3 April. The money raised will help to offset some of our outdoor education events this term.

Thank you for your support with this. We hope you enjoy this week of focusing on books as much as we will.
