Well what a year it has been. Full of learning and fun. After a busy and enjoyable Term 4 we come to the end of year with excitement but also sadness as we see our children move on to the next stage in their learning.
For some children this is their last year in the Junior Syndicate. We wish those families well as your child moves into the next stage of their schooling at Kaikorai Primary. We will miss seeing you all. Don't forget to pop back in and say hello.
Junior Day Out....
What a fabulous day we had on Tuesday. First we went to Toitu where we walked through the Chinese Gardens, then through Pixie Town and then we played eye spy in Toitu. Next we went to the Botanic Gardens. Once there we walked around the bird aviaries and then down to the bottom of the gardens where we had lunch outside the hot houses on the terrace. Thank you to all the wonderful parents who helped with groups and stopped anyone getting lost or falling in the duck pond. After lunch we had a wonderful hour playing in the playground and on the grass until it was time to go back to school. The weather was so kind to us which made it so much nicer. I have to praise the behaviour of all our children they were amazing and a pleasure to take out.
These past few weeks we have had lots of fun going around all the junior classes looking at how different countries celebrate Christmas around the world. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon for the last 6 days.
We hope you enjoyed reading your child's end of year report. A lot of care and concern goes into writing them and we hope that you felt they reflected the child you know.
Our recent syndicate maths focus on Fractions saw a huge improvement on the pre-test we started with. When we looked at the final data every child had made further progress in understanding fractions. Well done children and teachers for making such a difference.
Children's hats will come home for a wash and a mend over the holidays. Please make sure they are back in their bags for the first day of term 1 2018. Clearly labelled.
Please keep up the reading to and reading independently over the holidays. It is good to maintain the wonderful progress they have made over the year.
Children had a great visit to their new classes on Thursday morning and we hope they come home excited and reassured about what the next year holds for them.
Children will have brought home all their exercise books. Some like their story books are real treasures and will give you some wonderful reading and sharing times.
A BIG thank you goes to Fran Hall for her dedication for getting our newest children off to a great start. What a wonderful wee class she created in the library every morning for 14 new entrants.
I know I thank people in every newsletter but this is a final thank you for all you do to support the teachers and your children. Thank you for all the help at swimming, PMP, trips away and anything else that you may do for Kaikorai school. It is much appreciated.
Have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a restful break with your families. Take care and come back safe and refreshed to us on the 31st January 2018 ready to learn.
