Dunedin Public Libraries Summer Reading Programme 2017-18

This year Dunedin Public Libraries have joined with other public libraries in New Zealand to take part in the ECREAD’N programme ‘Wild about reading He ngākaunui ki te pānui’.

From today (Monday December 4th) children can register and pick up their new look summer reading folders from their local library. Also, this year children will be able to register and pick up their packs from the South Dunedin Pop-up and the Bookbus as well.

The summer reading programme is targeted at children who are independently reading, with the expectation of being able to read four books to succeed. Of course we will encourage children to read more than the four books if they would like to. We are aware that some children rely on audio books for their reading and that is fine by us. Also, we are aware that some children may struggle with reading on their own and they will need support to take part in the programme with their peers.

All children who successfully complete the summer reading programme will receive a prize and will be invited to a large celebration at the City Library in January 2018.

For younger children who are not ready to read independently yet, we have a ‘Read me a story’ programme for them.
