We are multicultural kiwis in the middle syndicate!
At our recent trip to the Otago museum we learned about our identity and what makes us unique. We thought about what things represent us as Kiwis and how these kiwiana icons such as gumboots and jandals tell us about what New Zealanders are like. We looked through the Southern lands gallery and thought about why people came to live in New Zealand in the past and also in the present day.
The children also visited the Exotic forest, discovery world and explored the museum while completing a museum trail. Once again thanks to the parents and grandparents who came along and helped us - it was much appreciated!
On Wednesday afternoons Miss May comes into Rooms 3 and 5 to teach us Mandarin Chinese. We have learned about Miss May's home town in China, how to say hello and some other interesting words like the word for panda. Next term Room 6 will have their lessons.
Rooms 3 and 6 have been very lucky to spend time with students from Otago Girls High School. As a part of their P.E classes the students have to teach a series of lessons which show progress over time. Our children have really enjoyed working in small groups and learning from older children.
