Powhiri/Whanau Hui

Powhiri details....

We have seen a marked improvement in the students and teachers understanding and ability to use Te Reo and Te Ao Maori through the expert  teaching and mentoring of Kopua and Ana Waititi and Manawa Enterprises.  In a recent survey we completed the children indicated it was the third most popular subject in the school.

The culmination of their programme will be taking the school through the important custom of powhiri at Arai Te Uru Marae.  This will mean that the school will be able to host and run their own powhiri in the future.  All classes will be walking to the marae and back.  Please make sure your child has their school top.

Classes will work in pairs and take on the roll of tangata whenua (the hosts) and the manuhiri (the guests) on Wednesday and Thursday the 7th and 8th December.

Marae Visit Junior classes Wednesday 7th Dec

Marae Visit Senior classes Thursday 8th Dec

We would encourage all children to revisit their mihimihi over the next few days and support information can be found at their website.  The password is araiteuru.

Parents are most welcome to attend with their children's class as it will double this year as our whanau hui.  We would love to hear any feedback on our Maori programmes at either the powhiri or by contacting the school.
