It was lovely to see and meet parents on Wednesday night, we really enjoyed the picnic and children loved having the chance to share something that they are proud of with their families.
The last three weeks have gone by so quickly. Classes in the middle syndicate have been busy creating artworks, completing assessments and setting up class routines.
In classes we have been learning about each other and setting up class treaties and expectations. Coming up later in the term we will be learning about Sustainability. We know that sustainability isn’t just about the environment so we are learning about how we can sustain language and culture and why this is important. We are looking for some guest speakers who would like to come in and visit classes to share with us how you sustain your culture at home. This could be talking about learning another language at home, or just some family traditions or recipes that you may have. If you would like to volunteer, please contact your class teacher.
On the 7th of March, we will visit the Otago Museum to learn about Multicultural Kiwis. A paper permission slip will be sent home next week and we will be looking for some parent helpers from each class to accompany us there.
Reading for enjoyment is an important part of being a lifelong learner. In the Middles we are encouraging reading for fun through our buddy reading programme and by “Finding Favourites”. This week we started buddy reading with all three classes. We spend time sharing books with a partner and we will endeavour to find out who the Middle’s favourite author is. Later in the term we will be having a book week and a chance to learn all about our favourite authors. This could be a good time for you to share some of your childhood favourites with your children!
