There are 18 children in Room 11.

Mrs Garden will teach Maths to the children from 11:00 to 12:00 while I run a Reading Assistance programme. This term we will be learning about “Bucket Filling” Waitangi Day, Birds and Leaping into Literacy through the Arts.

Routines.

Room 11 children are expected to pack and unpack their bags themselves, a first step in Managing Self. They will also be expected to look after their own sunhat, reading folder, lunch box and drink bottle.

Buzz Groups (Part of the Participating and Contributing.) Listening and Speaking.

Room 11 has a different focus each day.

Monday: Personal news. (Events that have happened to themselves.)

Tuesday: Global news. (Events they have heard about or seen on the TV or read about in the newspaper.)

Wednesday: Circle Time. (A listening and speaking programme.)

Thursday: Jokes and Riddles.

Library. Our library day is Monday afternoon. Children are encouraged to take home books to read to themselves and/or their parents or for their parents to read to them.

Homework.

Hopefully this will not be a burden and only take about 10 minutes.

Reading. Monday – Thursday. A new book or story should come home each day, be read and returned to their Reading Box the following day.

Spelling. Monday. Each child will get words to learn for a test on Friday. These words are taken from their language and reading work.

Poetry. Most Fridays a new poem will be in their Poetry book to be read and enjoyed.
