Our main event was the Year 6 Camp! Please see the bottom of the article for end of term information and parent help needed for our art gallery trip.

CAMP

The Year 6 students got back from their camp muddy, wet, cold,  a bit stinky, but well challenged and with smiles on their faces.  Although the weather was set to be really wet and windy, and did not disappoint, we managed to fit a lot into our camp.

This would not have been possible without the army of parent helpers who came and worked very hard for the children.  From both the staff and children, thank you very much.  Their fun attitude and spirit helped the camp run really smoothly.

On day 1 we went on a long river walk, crossing it with ropes and linking arms.  We walked to the famous Mrs Gillies' house and listened to her read some of her poems to us, one she had written about Kaikorai!  The children listened attentively and were blown away by her amazing attitude.  They also listened to her play her organ.  After walking back we blasted down the waterslide and all the teachers even had a go!

Over the next few days the children had climbing experiences, team challenges, river technology challenges and heaps of great food.  They were sent sliding through the muddy and difficult confidence course and got to cook damper and smores on the BBQs. YUM!

Please take the time to look at a small selection of the photos below.

Meanwhile back at 'Camp Kaikorai' the Year 5 horse trekking was cancelled due to poor weather.  We will make sure they get this opportunity, although now we are heading towards the winter this could be delayed until later in the year.  Thanks to Mr Reid and Mrs Kernaghan for looking after the Year 5 students - they were well engaged and enjoyed sharing their models and outdoor safety tips.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

Over the next two weeks the senior children will be receiving lessons from the NZ Police about how to keep themselves safe.  A parent information meeting was held with the police last Wednesday and thanks to those parents who showed up.  This would be a good time to discuss with your children what was discussed at school.
