Water Slide

On the first night when we were all feeling hot. Mr Hartley said

“My granny used to say, You gotta make hay when the sun is shining, So let’s set up the Water Slide so get changed into your togs and line up!” I couldn’t wait! When we were all lined up one by one we went down the Water Slide. Once all of us went down once people started chanting teachers and parents names. Mr Hartley, Mr Inglis and Mrs Kumar all went down the slide. Most parents did too.

Rock Climbing

Sadly the year six’s didn’t get to go abseiling so instead we went rock climbing in Oamaru. The rock walls were in a gymnasium beside a school. Tim bartholomew was in charge. He helped all the adults get on harnesses and learn how to keep us safe when we had a go on the walls. The first wall I did was one that went straight up. Part of it was on it’s side. Malcolm (Sophie’s dad) was helping by holding the rope attached to my harness. There were 5 walls that we got to use although in total there were more. My favourite wall was number 5. This one was the hardest because it had an overhang.

Camp Concert

On the last night we all participated in a Camp Concert. The hosts were Tom W, Mac and Max. The parents even did one too! Some of the skits were hilarious. I did two skits. One of my skits was a dance-off skit and the other one was a magic show.

River Walk

On the day we arrived and we had unpacked. Everyone set off for our first activity, the river walk. It was a long walk before we got to the river but everyone seemed alright and relieved to get into the water on the hot day. Some parts of the river had a very strong current so when we had to cross with a rope. Other times we had to hold onto a buddy. My buddy was Hope. On the way back we stopped by Mrs Gillie’s house. She lives by the river and is a poet. We heard some of her poems and ate afternoon tea. The best part was that in a shallow part of the river Mr Hartley announced that we could have a water fight. Even the teachers and parents joined in.

Cookout

On the same night as the Camp Concert we had a cookout. I was on a barbeque. First we cooked sausages for the parents. Then we cooked our sausages. After we cooked the sausages one person from our group went up to grab damper mix. My group didn’t want to make damper we wanted to make pancakes we added too much milk (purposely). Our pancakes failed. We got to roast marshmallows. Yum!

Confidence Course

We took it in groups to do the confidence course. Group 1 went first followed by group 2 and group 3. Last but not least was group 4 my group. We couldn’t do the start of the confidence course because it was to slippery and dangerous. But the rest was amazing. The highlight for me and everyone else was the huge slide at the end. If you were wearing the right materials you could go done really fast. But overall camp was amazing.
