This term looks to be a very busy and exciting one. Here are some of the things we have planned.
We start the term with a focus on "To Infinity and Beyond". Our inquiry into space, planets and how the universe works, fits wonderfully into our whole school big idea 'Systems'. We are so excited to be astronomers for the next few weeks.
In week 4 we will stop our space inquiry for a week and have a fun week with Book Week. There are lots of exciting things planned during the 4th week of term so look out for details. Come along to the book fair and buy some books.
Mid June we have a visit from the Life Education Classroom and our focus in the Juniors is Body Systems. You can see the 'systems' theme running right through Term 2.
Swimming begins on Wednesday and runs for the next 8 days. Thank you for the helpers who have agreed to come and help. I think the day I am short of helpers is on the Monday. You are welcome to meet us there or come on the bus at 10.45. Girls need their hair tied up each day and children need goggles and girls a swim cap. Please name all togs and towels and clothing.
Maths for the next two weeks is patterning. To help with this focus we are learning about number patterns and so counting in 2's to 20+ is a focus and also counting in 10's and possibly 5's. Some children are learning to count in numbers that end with the same number eg. 1,11,21,31,41, 51 etc.
After that we will get back into learning our basic facts. You will see different maths activities in their spelling note books that children need further practise on for homework.
Spelling goes home once a week and is tested on Friday. Please work on this each night getting your child to repeat the letters orally as they write the words out. I am so impressed with how knowing their spelling is allowing the children more independence at writing time.
Each Friday our poem book goes home with a new poem in. Please make sure that sometime during the weekend you get the poem book out and read it with your child this is another part of our reading programme. The more practise the children have with reading their poems the better. Encourage them to read old favourites in there as well.
PLEASE check reading folders for paper notices it is frustrating to find them still there a week later.
See you in Room 8. I look forward to a rewarding and exciting term 2. Susan Oldfield.
