What a busy time we have had lately in all areas of our learning.

Rooms 10, 9 and 7 have been lucky  to have 3rd year student teachers on control for the last 2-3 weeks. We thank Mrs Ellison, Miss  Lawrence and Miss T for all their hard work and dedication and we look forward to seeing you back in Term 3.

We are also lucky to have Mrs Ellison taking Maori each Monday in all Junior classes this term.

Last week we had a visit from Star Lab. This is a large blow up dome classroom that was set up in the hall for the day. Each Junior class got to crawl through the tunnel and into the dome to see the stars in the sky and how the sun and moon rose and moved across the sky. Armadeo was the instructor and he was able to make the stars relevant and exciting to junior children. A nice way to end out Solar System inquiry.  We were also lucky to be part of Armadeo doing an exciting water spout experiment in the playground at lunchtime. Talk about the WOW effect and a few wet children!!

Classes have been working with Pip Dick as part of out PBL cluster, learning lots of fun things like working on the I pads  in Room 10 on different apps . Room 12 and 8 had a fun day creating with cardboard and then in the afternoon Pip set us a challenge working in groups to make a chair that could stand up for a soft toy to sit on. We learned about making hinges, finding ways to work with cardboard that didn't require tape, working together in a small group and taking turns. See some photos at the end of our article to see what we did.

This week we have the arrival of the Life Education Classroom and Harold the Giraffe. Each Junior class gets two sessions in the classroom one this week and one next week. Our focus is learning about body systems. This focus should take us through to the end of the term.

Parent interviews are in week 10, a notice will be coming home soon about this. Please book a time to see your class teacher, we would like 100% turn out.  If these times are not suitable please make a separate time to see your child's teacher. Reports will be coming home at the end of week 9.

The teachers are amazed at some wonderful imaginative and healthy lunch boxes in classes. The lack of wrappers and glad wrap is very welcome. Please think about the way your child's lunch is coming to school and the amount of paper and glad-wrap being used. Also we have a NO sweets or chocolate policy for lunches these are treats for home. Water only in drink bottles please.

Stay warm and keep away from coughs and colds. If your child is unwell please keep them home so the bugs aren't spread around the class.

Thanks from the Junior Syndicate Teachers.
