We would like to take this opportunity to say a big welcome back to the 2019 school year.
Children have started the year with enthusiasm, big smiles and a willingness to work hard. This will be a big term with a kids conference and a school camp for the Year 6 children. Please read below for some important messages about this term.
Feb 6 - Waitangi Day (school closed)
Feb 13 - Meet the teacher
Feb 14 - Year 6 road patrol training refresher course
Feb 26 & 27 - Parent teacher meeting
Mar 5 - KVC sports expo day for year 6
Mar 8 - Kids Conference
Mar 19 to 22 - Year 6 camp and Year 5 challenges week
Homework can be a useful activity at the primary school level and is particularly effective when it provides opportunities for parents to have discussions with their children about topics or ideas being discussed in school. This will be an advantage of using the Seesaw application and we encourage you look at what your children are doing in school and to have discussions or continue this work in your home.
Students will have access to the majority of their school work anywhere with a device and an internet connection. The senior children will be completing much of their work on Hapara Workspace and we encourage your child to work on this school work at home as homework when or if the time permits.
Many children benefit from learning their basic fact skills at home and this can be done through the excellent sites XtraMath and Mathletics of which your child will have a username and password.
Finally, if your child is sent home with a spelling list to learn it would be hugely beneficial to support them in learning to spell these words. The technique of look, cover, write check is a great place to start.
We expect that a child should be doing school work at home for no more than 20 to 30 minutes per night.
If you have any questions about any of these points please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
An initial letter about camp and getting parent help has gone home with your children today. (1st of February) Please ask your children for this letter if they have not given it to you. If you want to help out on camp this letter will need to be filled in, signed and returned before the 8th of February.
