The term is well underway!
It is amazing to see all the preparations and learning happening around the technology curriculum this term. Room 1 are looking at computational thinking and robotics while looking at the hardware and software options and choices to solve real life problems; Room 2 are creating cardboard solutions; Room 2a are designing technological solutions in 3 dimensions; Room 3 and 4 are entering the world of virtual reality; Room 5 are putting their coding skills to work on the versatile Makey Makey; And finally Room 6 are incorporating circuitry into artworks.
It is extremely exciting and inspiring to see what these children are doing and we are very enthusiastic to share this learning with the community on the kids conference day.
This last week saw the beginning of the year for most of the clubs and activities that your children can join. Choir is singing along on Mondays at lunch, Children are shooting over to KPSTV on Tuesday for year 3s and Thursday for Year 4 to 6. Rock band has kicked off on Wednesdays at lunch. Orchestra has begun with a crescendo of interest on Thursdays. Ukulele is strumming along, also on a Thursday. Kapa Haka, on Fridays has also begun. T-Ball practises on Friday has teed off! Finally a new rhythmic opportunity for dancers will start on Wednesday next week so get you kids along to dance.
The children are busy and excited about their many opportunities this term. If your child has not joined up, it is not too late to encourage them along to one of these clubs!
Senior road patrol children have been working hard on Tyne Street to keep the children crossing safely. It has been great to see parents driving responsibly down this tight street and to see the children waiting to cross safely with the road patrol children. These road patrol children were given a review training session with Constable Emily on Thursday this week.
It has been fantastic to see both parents and children posting about their work on Seesaw. This has been a great way to share classwork with the community and we love to see your feedback on your children's work. Keep it coming!
Otago Girls students will be coming to Kaikorai to run some sports skills sessions with the middles children. These lessons are usually highly regarded by the children and we look forward to welcoming them to our school. Details and dates TBC.
It was wonderful to see so many parents coming to the 'meet the teacher picnic' and to get some amazing weather for the event. Please now keep your eyes out for details about the up and coming parent teacher meetings on the 26th and 27th of February.
