A big welcome back to school and an extra special welcome to all our new children and families at Kaikorai this year.
As always Term 1 has had a busy start. We have been extremely impressed with how well the children have settled back into school routines and adjusted to their new classes.
This term our KAIK value is Kind. Classes have been learning about showing kindness to others though reading the book ‘Fill your Bucket’ and by creating class treaties. We know we are super lucky to have such kind children at Kaikorai as we see this value demonstrated everyday.
Our focus now turns to our Kids' Conference in Week 6. Children have been busy learning and becoming experts in new digital skills such as using a green screen, Scratch, Edison Robots, Seesaw and Photography skills. We look forward to having parents join us in the near future to learn some new skills from the children.
This year we have launched the app Seesaw school wide as a learning journal for your child’s best work. We hope this gives you a better insight into what your child has been doing as you receive regular updates throughout the term. It is extra special seeing the children’s faces light up when a special someone has left them a comment. If you are having trouble connecting to Seesaw please see your child’s teacher.
This term we will also have 8 days of swimming with JC Swim School at the DNI Pool. This begins on the 19 March through to the 29 March, excluding Otago Anniversary Day on the 25th. Your child will bring home a permission form and further information for this in the coming weeks.
Some reminders:
Homework: As well as bringing a book home from Monday-Thursday to read, children will also have spelling. Some may also have alphabet sounds or words to practise. We don’t aim to make homework a chore so please make it quick and fun. Remember this is a just a way to reinforce the learning that is taking place at school.
Water: It is important, especially with the weather we have been having, that all children bring a bottle of water each day.
8.30am Bell: Please ensure your child is waiting until the 8.30am bell before they enter the classroom as this is important teacher preparation time.
As always please pop in or email us if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to a fun and busy year with your children.
Many thanks,
The Junior Teachers
