Getting Together – Past School Reunions

By Simon Clarke | Posted: Sunday May 26, 2019

School reunions are ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to get together to celebrate school days. So how has Kaikorai Primary School celebrated in the past?

For its 50th Jubilee Reunion held 28–30 November 1919, an ‘Early Days’ lantern slide show (olden days PowerPoint!) started the weekend on Friday evening, Saturday was ‘Scholars Day’ with various musical items and a ‘Punch and Judy’ show, followed in the evening by the reunion under marquis on the school grounds. The weekend concluded with a Sunday Service and unveiling of the Roll of Honour recording the names of the 400 students and five staff who had served in the recent First World War. The Jubilee project was the Memorial Arches on Tyne Street in memory of 94 students who died in the war – fittingly 100 years later their re-establishment is the 150th project.

So this Labour Weekend don’t miss out on being part of our 150th celebrations but most of all the opportunity for a Get Together!
