Kia ora, I hope you all had a wonderful term break and am looking forward to term 3 as much as I am.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first week with your children. It has been great to get to know them and hopefully it has been great for them to get to know me. It has been fantastic to meet so many of the parents over this week as well, and if I haven’t met you yet I am sure we will soon. If you have any questions or would like to met, please don’t hesitate to pop in or email me on [email protected]
As well as myself starting at Kaikorai, I would like to warmly welcome Bobbi Fleming to room 2a as well. She has had a great first week at school and we look forward to the rest of the year together.
In room 2a we have been looking at our Mihi as a way for me to get to know the class and a little about them. Our big learning focus for this term is 'How can we tell our story - Kaikorai turns 150!' What an exciting time. The learning will be a social sciences focus - the history of Dunedin, Kaikorai Primary School, creating an exhibition piece for our 150 reunion (Week 3, Term 4), and of course telling a story from our past for our school production - Week 9 of this term. We have a visit to Toitu - Early Settlers museum on Wednesday of Week 4, 14th August. Our visit will centre around schooling in the past, Dunedin and Otago history and drama activities. If you would like to come along, please let me know.
As you may have seen in the last newsletter, ICAS exams are coming up in this term. We offer science, maths and english exams. If this is something that is of interest please don't hesitate to get in touch.
We have the Hills Cluster cross country in Week 3 where we take 30 Year 4-5-6 pupils to Balmacewen Intermediate to run against other schools in our cluster. This week we will be heading down to Balmac to help with our selection process. Success at the Hills Cluster race determines selection for the Otago Champs in Week 6.
Again thank you for the warm welcome to the school community,
Mark Pickering
