Sports Wrap Up

By Felicia Ward | Posted: Thursday December 12, 2019

It’s hard to believe that the time has come to wrap up another year of sports and what a year it has been!

This year sport at Kaikorai has flourished with participant numbers in a variety of sports increasing. As always futsal and basketball have been strong codes for Kaikorai but it has been great to see sports such as tennis and touch really grow with more teams being added each season.

2019 Successes

Futsal

Kaikorai Cheetahs: Year 1/2 Champions Term 1 & Term 4

Kaikorai Bears: Year 3/4 Champions Term 4

Kaikorai Hawks: Year 5/6 Boys Champions Term 1 & Term 4

Cross Country

Henry Hodgson, Luke Milburn, Sam Goodchild, Race Porter, Isabelle Fahey, Holly Donaldson, Charlotte Watkins, Rhys Beattie, Hunter Hathaway, Toby Ollerenshaw and Oliver Devereux all competed in the Otago Cross Country held at Kaikorai Valley College. This is a huge achievement as the best of the best from all over Otago are selected to compete at this event. A special mention to Holly Donaldson who placed 10th in Year 5 girls race.

Athletics

Archie Gordon, Hunter Hathaway, Levi Crump, Samuel Crump, Rhys Beattie, Charlotte Watkins, Ben Couling, Jayden Lu, Will Pyper, Olivia Brown, Isabelle Fahey, Victor Rivollet, Sam Goodchild, Sophie Wellington, Luke Milburn, Olivia McIntyre, Henry Hodgson, Nathan Markham, Maddox Adamson, Samuel Yabakirua, Jude Smilie and Race Porter all competed in the Otago Athletics Championships this term after being placed within the top ten and reaching qualifying standard at the North Zone Champs.

I feel the biggest success of sport this year is the way the Kaikorai children continue to conduct themselves on and off the field. Each game or sporting event I attend I see our children demonstrating the KAIK Values, great sportsmanship and most importantly having fun. I am always very proud to be a part of Kaikorai as I watch on.

We say this every year but we truly are so grateful to have the support we do from parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters who give up their time to coach, transport and cheer on their children at each game and event. Your support does not go unnoticed and it really is true that it would not be possible without you all.

Lastly, I would like to wish all the Year 6s the best of luck as they move onto intermediate. Take every opportunity and give it your best! I look forward to following your future sporting achievements.

Many thanks
