A few weeks ago we were lucky to be selected to represent Kaikorai at the Dunedin school's Lit Quiz. Read on to find out how we went.
As we pulled up outside DNI we were shaking. Most of us had never done anything like this before.
We had a great team that consisted of Freya , Sam, Ollie and Poppy.
We were the first to arrive so they showed us to our seats and let us prepare. We had a briefing at 11 am. For our double points, we decided to choose sequels which are the next book in a series. Some of the categories included Monsters, Love, Realms, Machinery, and a few others.
We were competing against many other schools from across Dunedin, there were around 4 different age groups year 5, 6, 7, and 8. Some of the questions were from books we have never heard of so this made it quite challenging. Our worst round was definitely libraries, we only scored 1 out of 10. Our best category was sequels scoring 6 out of 10.
After having a lunch break we were right back into the action and more focused than ever. Once we had finished another 5 rounds the results were in. There were prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and the best year 5\6 team. We knew what was at stake: the winner getting a $1000 check and a flight to Wellington. “And the winner is… Columba College!
We were all devastated but we knew we had to keep our heads up high, at least we could do better next year. All in all, it was a great day out and we all loved the experience.
