Some important information as we head into Level 2
It’s the news we had all been hoping we wouldn’t hear but Kaikorai School is well placed to manage the restrictions that exist as we move back into Level 2. Here are the major changes that will take place.
Contact Tracing
No parents are allowed onto the school grounds unless they have filled out the contact tracing forms in the school office. We are lucky that our students are well practised at getting to and from the gates independently and this will continue. Room 12 will be escorted by Miss Dunn at the end of the day to the Tyne St gate. Children may enter and exit at the gate that is most convenient to them. Teachers will remain on the gates to support your child to get to class.
Physical Distancing and Personal Hygiene
Physical distancing is a good precaution to prevent the spread of disease. In an alert level 2 school environment, this means children and staff maintaining a physical distance so that they are not breathing on or touching each other, coupled with good hygiene practices (coughing into your elbow, handwashing and drying) and regular cleaning of commonly touched surfaces.
Soap is available at every sink, and paper towels for drying hands thoroughly.
Disinfectant wipes/spray in every classroom, office and staffroom.
Masks will be available from the office for staff. Children may wear masks, but these must be provided from home. The Ministry of Education has advised that masks are not necessary at school.
Sickness
As mentioned in Friday's newsletter please keep children home who are sick and contact your doctor to see if a Covid test is necessary.
Prime Math Books and devices.
These will be sent home if it looks like we are moving to Level 3 or on Friday. They need to come back to school each day that we are open and children should not rush ahead and do activities without being instructed to do so by the teacher. We are preparing our Chromebooks and ipads for delivery to homes if we move back to Level 3.
Sports
Basketball is cancelled tomorrow and we will update you on other sports as soon as we know.
Assemblies
These are postponed until we return to Level 1.
Drink Bottles
The drinking fountains will remain operational but we would encourage all children to bring their own drink bottles.
Once again we will try to keep things as normal as possible with our classroom programmes. I saw many teachers this morning calmly talking to the classes, reassuring them and answering questions. Please keep a close eye on your child and let the teacher know if you are seeing any changes in behaviour. As the Prime Minister said last night "We have done it before and we can all do it again".
Kind regards
