Senior news August 2020

Camp, Keeping ourselves Safe programme, Epro8, Calendar art, PBL - read on to find out the senior news.

It has been an exciting term so far in the senior team working on pick a path narrative story writing, planning our PBL hospital rebuild projects, working on large ball skills, learning how to code through using the co-spaces platform as well as making our best calendar art ever!

Our hospital rebuild PBL driving question, is, how can we as logistic experts, ensure supplies get around the hospital safely without getting in the way of patients & staff. We are thinking about moving blood, x-rays, information, food, and all supplies and info around the hospital. We want our team to engage in blue-sky thinking - big ideas, big concepts, no limits to come up with solutions to the problems. Watch this space to see what we come up with!

We are on the lookout for people that work in a hospital / medical setting, are you a radiographer, doctor, nurse, orderly, work in the hospital in any capacity? - we would love to hear from you! Please let me or your child's teacher know if we can send you some questions or you can come in and speak to us.

Please start sending in cardboard (my food bag boxes are perfect) shoe boxes, any leftover craft supplies you may have, egg cartons etc. Thanks in advance!

We have really enjoyed exploring the narrative genre and learning the features of pick-a-path writing. Most classes have shared their stories with their buddy classes and loved having an audience to get feedback from.

As part of our health programme we will be teaching the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme in conjunction with the NZ Police. The Year 4-6 content of the programme can be accessed here. We will be holding a meeting for parents in Room 1A, 3:30pm on Tuesday 8th September to discuss the content in more detail should you wish to attend. Please read the more detailed article to RSVP for the meeting and for more detail.

Lastly congratulations to our EPRO8 crew - Freya, Ollie, Sam, and Luke who came third in the grand final this week. EPRO8 is a hands-on, science, engineering, and teamwork competition. Great work!

CAMP UPDATE - A decision will be made by the end of term with the feasibility of camp  (24th - 27th November) going ahead in the current COVID19 climate.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support, and please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can help in any way.

Ngā mihi

Beth Downie and the Senior Syndicate teachers.
