Only three weeks to go...

But as I look at the calendar it looks like things are not slowing down!  Please keep up to date by either printing off this first page and putting it on the fridge or use our Skooloop app.

I hope that the Year 6 students have a great week at camp next week and that the Year 5 students also enjoy their activity week.  Many thanks to our parent volunteers who are coming and also to the teachers who have put in countless hours organising everything.

Well done to all of our athletes who represented the school so proudly at the North Zone Sports and then the Otago Championship.  A special congratulations to our girl's relay team who came back from dropping the baton last year in the final to becoming the Otago Champions.  A truly great effort!

I am reading all of the student's reports this week and have been impressed with the improvements they have made both academically and socially.  All will agree that 2020 has been a year like no other and it has had an impact on us all.  Despite this, it appears that most students have made significant progress.

Our end of year student data has been collected and analysed and I am pleased to say that we continue to perform very highly. We use a combination of teacher judgements and standardised tests to collect this information to ensure that we have a full picture of individual, small group and overall school achievement. The Board will be using this data over the next few weeks to set targets and direct funding for next year.

Our reading results continue to perform highly with 86% of our students being able to read at or above the expected level. Our Maths results sit at 85% while our writing results sit at 80%.

Thank you to the hard-working students, families, teachers and teacher aides for achieving such great results.

The rebuild has been conspicuous in its absence this year and I am hesitant to announce this as we have had so many delays that have been no fault of our own.  But I have received information from the Ministry of Education that the rebuild will start in the holidays in the new year.  They will start on the first seven classes which will accommodate the juniors and senior classes towards the end of next year and then they will progress onto the construction of the remainder of the building.

Kind regards

Simon Clarke
