What a fantastic first 3 weeks the seniors have had - read on to find out all about it and upcoming events.

A special warm welcome to our new senior syndicate parents. Unfortunately due to the change in alert levels, our meet the teacher evening was cancelled but now that we are back to Level 1, we really look forward to welcoming you into your child's room soon!

The first 3 weeks of a school year are filled with getting to know our classmates, developing a class community, and really exploring what the KAIK values mean to us. When you visit your child's class you will see an array of work around these themes on the wall.

This week we had a kiwi golf session with a golf pro, Melanie Harper. She explored techniques when gripping the club, leg stance, swing techniques, and hand-eye coordination. A number of our pupils are interested in exploring golf further, a website to look at is https://www.dunedinjuniorgolf.co.nz/

Next week we are excited to head to the Town Hall to listen to the New Zealand Air Force band. There is always something special about listening to a live band in a venue as beautiful as the Town Hall and we hope that our children enjoy the atmosphere and the performance.

As you know parent interviews will be happening in week 5. When the home-school partnership is strong, it creates pathways for conversations to be had around your child's learning and making progress. We are aiming to see 100% of our parents to discuss settling in, getting to know your child and how they work best as well as sharing their most up-to-date learning goals.  We are really looking forward to meet with you all.

In week 6 the Year 5 and 6 children from R1, 1A, 2, and 2A will be heading down to Long Beach for a day of rock climbing with Tim and the team from Dunedin Climbing. The objective of this visit is to develop self-confidence, be presented with a challenging opportunity, and try something new - all coming under the KAIK value of being keen. A more detailed notice and permission form will be coming home in week 4 so please lookout for this.

Lastly, welcome to India McLay (R1) and Gerrand Deidrichs (R2A) our final year University of Otago College of Education students. They are at Kaikorai for the year and we are excited to see them grow as teachers.

As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can help in any way.

Ngā mihi

Beth Downie and the senior syndicate team.
