Room 10 Term 3 News

By Paula Fisher | Posted: Sunday July 25, 2021

Hi, Room 10 families. I hope that you have had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Here is what is happening this term for Room 10.

*School Value

Our school value for Term 3 is: Independent

- To work hard

- To make good decisions

- To look after belongings

*PBL

For Term 3, our school-wide focus for project-based learning is based on making our third school movie.  Our learning will centre around the driving question:

“What makes a great story/film?”

Room 10 will be having lots of fun creating our part of the school movie through singing, acting, and dance.

*Assembly

Here is an important date for your calendar!  At this stage, Room 10 will be hosting Assembly on Friday the 24th of September.  Assembly begins at 11.00 am and we would love you all to come along.

*Buzz Groups

For the last two terms, oral language has taken place in the form of individual "News Days" for each child in Room 10. Each child in Room 10 has shared their news once a week in front of the whole class.

In term 3, we will be changing to "Buzz Groups."  Buzz groups entail each child having the opportunity to share their news each day, Monday to Thursday, with a small group of children from their class.  There will only be four children in each group.

As the children are sharing their news in a small group, they can either bring something physically along to share or simply talk about their news.

*Homework

Just a reminder that children have homework, Monday to Thursday, which entails:

1. The reading of, and talking about, their reading book.

2. Learning their spelling words

3. Sight words  - Word Wall

For those children learning their 100 sight words, you will find a new word wall in their home book tomorrow. Once your child has achieved their 100 sight words, then they will no longer receive a word wall.

*100 Days of School

As part of our  Calendar Maths programme, Room 10 will be 100 days smarter on Thursday!  This is because on Thursday we would have been at school for 100 days.  To celebrate being 100 days smarter,  Room 10 will be having a wonderful day taking part in many activities revolving around the number 100.

Tomorrow, Monday the 26th of July, your child will come home with a snap-lock bag in their reading folder.  Your child's maths task is to count out 100 small things of the same type to put into their snap-lock bag.  Here are some suggestions:

100 raisins, 100 grains of rice, 100 counters, 100 small pieces of lego, 100 screws, 100 pieces of pasta, 100 beads, 100 sequins.

The list is endless!  The only stipulation is that the 100 things have to fit inside the snap-lock bag.

All your child needs to do then is return their snap-lock bag to school by Thursday the 29th of July, in preparation for our 100 Days smarter celebrations on that day.

*Communication

If you do need to have a chat about your child, please pop into the class anytime before or after school, or alternatively e-mail me at

[email protected] or place a message on "Seesaw."

Many thanks,

Paula
