Covid 19 Update 30/08/2021- Level 3 Expectations

By Simon Clarke | Posted: Thursday August 26, 2021

Thank you to the vast majority of parents who are able to stay at home and look after their children. Online learning programmes will continue as normal as we move into level 3. The rest of this newsletter is directed to parents who are essential workers.

Thank you essential workers!  We understand how hard it must be to send your children to school and leave your house to head back to work.

At Alert Level 3, you legally must stay within your household bubble unless for essential personal movement including going to work and going to school. As the Prime Minister noted on Friday, schools are essentially closed at Alert Level 3 with the exception of those few children whose parents and carers must go to work at Alert Level 3, and there is no appropriate caregiver at home.

1. The following criteria apply in determining whether a child is eligible to return to school.

  1. If there is a parent, sibling or caregiver available to look after your child, STAY AT HOME.

  2. Distance learning will continue for those not attending school.

  3. Students cannot “come and go”. Attendance must be consistent.

  4. Children at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 must stay home wherever possible.

2. What the conditions will be like.

The school will look and feel very different under Alert Level 3.

  • There is no mask mandate but teachers and students are more than welcome to wear masks
  • Students attending school will be placed in “bubbles” of approximately 10 students. This bubble will not change throughout Alert Level 3.

  • Each bubble will be separate. No bubble will interact with another bubble.

  • Students will sit in their own named, space each day. There will be 1m physical distancing inside and 2m outside.  No mat time or shared spaces such as the Lego tables.

  • Break and lunchtimes will be staggered to avoid any bubble mixing.

  • Contact tracing registers will be set up and identify which children are in each teaching space, record when and who they have contact with during the day if that changes.

  • Physical education classes and breaktime activities cannot include sports with <2m physical distance or where the same equipment is touched by different students (balls, ropes, sticks, etc).  The sports shed will not be opened.

  • Surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected daily

  • Class teachers will remain working from home delivering their online learning programme.  Classes at school will be covered by Mr Clarke, Mr Reid, Mr Bish, Mrs Garden and Mrs Cleland.
  • No parents on site unless you have an appointment.  We will meet your child at the Tynes St gate.
  • Children at school may be asked to do some art or other activities that are not part of the distance learning programme but they will primarily take part in the online learning programme from school.
